Aluminium bending tips to a customer who specialises in aluminium bending. This customer is located in the area of Lérida (Spain) and manufactures chimney caps, wall covers, ventilation grilles, and rain gutters.
OUR CUSTOMER’S PROBLEMS
Our customer has a new chimney cap product in black and grey lacquered aluminium. The problem he has is that when bending this type of material, the aluminium and the paint tend to crack. Therefore, we advised him to increase the punch radius, rendering a perfect finish, without any cracks.
In addition, it would look better with a larger radius. In other words, the final finish of the piece would be much better.
On our ONLINE SHOP, we have a BLOG with several sections. One of these sections is BENDING SOLUTIONS , where we offer solutions and advice for issues that customers usually ask us about. Thanks to our extensive experience of over 40 years in the metal deformation sector and in the manufacture of tools for press brakes, we are able to solve such issues.
In this section there is a tip entitled “How to avoid bending marks in lacquered aluminium”, which you can find at the following direct link (https://metalmaq.shop/blog/en/how-to-avoid-the-bending-marks-in-lacquered-aluminium/). It’s a very interesting section because you can see in depth all the explanations, with sketches, photos and even a video, showing the different solutions to avoid marking lacquered aluminium in the bending operation.
We explained all these solutions to the customer and he decided to come to METALMAQ himself and do some tests with his lacquered aluminium sheet using our proposed Radio 3 tools and MEBUSA press brake. This press brake is exclusively dedicated to doing tests for our customers. And yes, the pieces were perfect and he admitted that it was exactly what we explained in the article.
ANOTHER CHALLENGE FROM OUR CUSTOMER
Customer was convinced by the tests and placed the order with us, together with a set of dies for a new Bystronic press brake, with Promecam clamping, which he had just bought. But he told us that apart from this order he wanted the same punch, but with many “windows” or recesses to make tray-like parts full of “flaps”.
He wanted it this way to avoid collisions and not to change the tools once they are installed in his press brake.
THE SOLUTION
Fortunately, our excellent AFTER-SALES SERVICE is equipped with an EDM (wire cutting) machine and with it we manufactured the two punches that the customer wants to do his work.

The pictures above show the 42 mm deep and 5 mm wide recesses. The recesses were placed 15 mm apart, and as can be seen, each 835 mm punch included 41 recesses, a true work of engineering!
THE CONCLUSION
Conclusion is that thanks to our extensive experience, our knowledge, which we expose publicly through our BLOG so that the whole metal deformation sector improves, and our excellent AFTER-SALES service, METALMAQ was once again able to provide an excellent service for a customer who was extremely happy with the tools we manufactured for him.
