METALMAQ manufactures 10 meters of special dies, with V of 300m/m at 70º, to fold HARDOX 450 of high resistance and of 20 m/m thickness for an important manufacturer and leader in its sector of quarries’ material, located in the center area of Spain.

Explanation of the piece
Our client manufactures machinery for excavations and earth movements. He has a DURMA folder of 2000 Ton and 10 meters length in his facilities. Now for the manufacture of new products he wants to start folding HARDOX 450 of high resistance, but with a thickness of 20m/m and makes us the query to find out what matrix V he needs to be able to make their new products quickly.
¿What is the material Hardox?
As we explain in this entry about HARDOX material , Hardox is a high resistance material suitable to be used in situations of a high wear of the pieces, but it has the difficulty that it needs more tonnage than usual and with the characteristic that it has a high elastic return in the bending operation, that is to say that once the piece has been bended it can have a return of 20 or 25º with this type of material and thickness.
Solution adopted by Metalmaq
Given the difficulty of the piece, our Technical Office designs the dies in lengths of 1.000m/m, according to our client, because the weight that we calculate for each 1 meter length is about 700 Kg (in addition threaded holes are made on the laterals of the dies to mount rings and handle them better with the crane). A V of 300 m / m is produced at 70º to counteract the elastic return of the HARDOX. A small recess is also made in the base of the dies, to couple them to the customer’s press brake table, while the 10 dies lengths remain aligned.
Dies produced in steel 42CrMo4
The dies are manufactured in steel 42CrMo4 tempered by induction in their contact areas with the sheet and rectified, which guarantees a long working life for them.
In the first image you can see the side view of the die: in the central part of the V we see a standard die 20.09 (60x60m/m), which has been put to compare its size with the special die.
In the second image we see the batch of 5 pallets prepared to be sent *.
Delivery of special dies
The final result was the shipment of 5 pallets with the special dies, with two dies on each and a weight per pallet of 1,400 kg. At the end, an expedition of 7.000 Kg was sent* !!! All this with the added satisfaction when the customer informed us about the start of his production at a good pace, thanks to the collaboration with Metalmaq.
